Apple Reportedly Developing New Chips for Smart Glasses, Macs, and AI Servers

By Charlotte Hayes

Apple is accelerating development of custom silicon for future smart glasses, more powerful Mac computers, and AI server infrastructure, according to a new report from Bloomberg. The company is said to be working on a dedicated chip designed specifically for smart eyewear — a move that signals growing interest in wearable computing, despite Apple's cautious stance on augmented reality.

The upcoming chip is reportedly engineered to manage multiple built-in cameras, which will be embedded in the glasses. These devices are expected to scan the surrounding environment and use AI to assist the wearer with contextual tasks. According to sources, mass production could begin as early as late 2026 or in early 2027.

While Apple has yet to commit fully to mainstream augmented reality, the company appears to be exploring a more pragmatic use case — smart glasses that rely on machine vision and artificial intelligence, rather than immersive AR displays.

The product is positioned to compete with devices such as the Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses, which have recently gained popularity for their hands-free photo, video, and AI features.

In a parallel development, Meta is reportedly working on advanced software capable of identifying individuals using highly sensitive recognition technology, suggesting that competition in the AI-enhanced wearable space is rapidly intensifying.
